Eisenhower Fellowships 2013: Southeast Asia Program (SEARP)

The day one has already started with “Eisenhower Fellowships 2013 Southeast Asia Program (SEARP). I am more than honored to be one among five fellows from Thailand, and one among 25 fellows from ASEAN. The fellows  from Thailand this year are Sarinee Achavanuntakul, Rathapol Bhakdibhumi, Prinya Hom-Anek, Dr. Veerathai Santiprobhob and me.

The Eisenhower Fellowships program is a 7-week program prepared according to interests of each fellow. The EF has been on for more than 60 years and the best part of it, we were told, is expansion of our horizons through network of nearly 2000 EF fellows around the world.

For me, it is a great and luxury opportunity to, well take a so-called “break” from my daily routine at work for 7-week. (One condition of the EF is fellows should not work at all during the program) I guess every fellow has to manage at some point and with the raising demand from 24-7 connected society, it seems getting harder to completely ignore our work.

Anyhow, welcome speech by John S. Wolf, President of EF does help a lot when he said “it is also the time to trust that your colleague can really cover your job while you are away,” Thanks to the management at the ThaiPBS especially MD Somchai Suwanban to grant green light for me to be here, and not least supportive colleagues of “This is  ThaiPBS” program, I fully acknowledge I am burdening you for 50 days!  

All 25 fellows will be in Philadelphia for the first five days, and then we will go on our own separate programs to different cities, and different states. Perhaps, some destinations can be overlapped, but the unique character of this EF is to respond to an individual requests.

My interests in the EF program is mainly in media, transition of traditional to social media, ASEAN, and women leadership. Thus from now until 16 November, it will be a great time to “meet” with leaders from different areas which I have chosen.

เริ่มต้นอย่างไม่เป็นทางการแล้ว สำหรับโปรแกรม Eisenhower Fellowships 2013 Southeast Asia Program (SEARP) ที่จะกินเวลายาวนาน 7 สัปดาห์ ซึ่งเป็นการลาจากงานนานที่สุดในรอบกว่า 5 ปี กับการทำงานที่ ThaiPBS 

ทุน EF ปีนี้ให้ความสำคัญกับ “ผู้นำรุ่นใหม่” จากสาขาต่างๆในอาเซียน รวม 25 คน เพื่อที่จะได้นำความสนใจของตนเอง มาต่อยอด ศึกษา และพูดคุยกับ “ผู้นำ” ในแต่ละวงการในสหรัฐ  ปีนี้ผู้ได้รับทุนจากประเทศไทยคือ สฤณี อาชวานันทกุล ปริญญา หอมอเนก รัฐพล ภักดีภูมิ ดร.วิรไท สันติประภพ และฉัน  นอกจากจะยินดีมากแล้วที่ได้พบกับตัวแทนจากประเทศไทย “เพื่อนๆ” EF จากประเทศในอาเซียนล้วนแล้วแต่หลากหลาย มีจากวงการธุรกิจ ประชาสังคม กองทัพ นักอนุรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อม ผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ เป็นต้น  

โดยรวมกับ 50 วัน ในโปรแกรม แต่ละคนจะมีนัดพูดคุย พบปะ แลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นกับบรรดาผู้บริหารที่นัดไว้ประมาณ  60 นัด  ฉันเลือกดูงานด้านสื่อ ยุคการเปลี่ยนผ่านไปสู่สื่อสังคมและดิจิตอล องค์กรสื่อ ผู้หญิงกับความเป็นผู้นำ และยุทธศาสตร์สำหรับอาเซียน  องค์กรที่นัดไว้มีหลากหลาย เช่นสำนักสื่ออย่าง PBS, CBS , Washington Post, New York Times, Nieman Lab, Thai Studies at Harvard University  และอื่นๆอีกมากมาย

ขอบคุณผู้บริหาร ThaiPBS โดยเฉพาะ ผอ.สมชัย สุวรรณบรรณ ผู้สนับสนุนและเปิดโอกาสให้พนักงานได้เรียนรู้โลกกว้าง และที่ไม่ลืมเป็นอย่างยิ่งคือเพื่อนร่วมงานหลายท่าน ต้องคอยดูแลรายการ และทำหน้าที่แทนช่วงที่ฉันไม่อยู่ ขอบคุณมากๆค่ะ
